The spider monkey is an agile mammal, considered to be the best acrobat in the forest. Its name refers to the fact that, like a spider, it has arms and legs that are extremely long in comparison with its body. These monkeysΓÇÖ fur can be black, gray, red or brown. They live together in groups in the tree tops, and rarely go down to the ground. They use their tail and their arms to jump from one branch to the other. When they feel threatened, they scream and throw loose tree branches at their enemies. They may live to be 30 years old.
Approximate size: 20 inches tall and 3 feet in tail length.
Favorite food: Fruit, seeds, flowers, insects, spiders and eggs.
